The adventurer who received undesired immortality - Ch 4

A Skeleton's Loneliness

I should have defeated it, but is this the way to advance in the existence evolution?

While pounding through the bones of the man, after picking up the magic stone, I will check the body ... Has anything changed after I defeated it?

There is no real feeling of anything to have changed ...

While I thought that, suddenly from the skeleton's body, a faintly dim light came out towards my body. What? Were you still alive??

For a moment I was in a hurry to avoid but I could not help it because the light hit my body very soon after trying to avoid it, with a light that does not have any offensive atmosphere.

But, contrary to this kind of worry, my body didn’t get hurt by this light, or rather, I felt that some kind of power is gushing out from it towards me.

As light gets absorbed more and more in my body, the power of the mind that I should have consumed earlier when I strengthened my body was also filled again and my magical powers and healing properties grew a little, I feel as if I as a whole have increased in power.

Maybe, this is what that guy called as 《The Existential Evolution of a Monster》

I thought it would take much more time to advance, this was quite fast.

But... to my disappointment, I don't look more different than usual.

I don't have a mirror with me now, but my hands, limbs and body are practically the same.

But well, it doesn’t mean that it’s meaningless either! I advanced in power, also

the so called existential evolution, is not something that could be done just by beating one or two monster of the same family.

This is also the knowledge gained by reading a research book of monsters, but what was written in that book was mostly speculations because there was few data about this.

This is what I can understand now, existential evolution will make superior monsters to be born rapidly and it will become a threat to humanity so to prevent this the theory says that the evolution only is possible if a bunch of different monsters is defeated and only one of them turns victorious in numerous battles. The book said that evolution in a monster is a rare case.

So, I have to defeat a lot of different kinds of monsters and strong ones, to be able to evolve as I want.

First of all, let's try.

I thought so and decided to continue exploring the labyrinth.

In conclusion, every time I beat a monster I liked the fact that I could get stronger little by little.

From that time, I found many skeletons, beat them and absorbed the same light over and over again.

And it was obvious from the fact that my ability rises due to absorption of that light, as the movement of my body has improved considerably since the beginning.

After defeating the first skeleton, my power was just enough to crack the head at the last moment, but now it was enough to crush the bones of the head into pieces, if I want.

Perhaps it is about time I go hunt slimes.

I feel like I got strong enough to do so.

Altough slimes are weak monsters, they are troublesome, because they are monsters formed by amorphous liquid.

Due to its nature, it is said that physical attacks are less effective, using magic is the easiest way to beat it down.

However, there is not only one way to beat it, it is possible to kill it with physical attacks too. Slimes have a nucleus, when it's hit, the entire monster dies and leaves behind a magic stone.

But this is not so easy, it requires skills of swordsmanship or spear / dagger wielding to accurately shoot the part of the nucleus while it moves constantly. Usually such a task would require a middle class adventurer, while I was a copper coin one, therefore, I could only be defeat it by taking another way, to disperse the liquid body that constitutes the slime to such an extent that it can not be regenerated. This was pretty easy, but instead it takes a while.

Since a slime is a liquid form body, even if it is scattered, it will move the entire liquid with the nucleus and stick to the biggest mass and regenerate it.

In order to not let it do it, I would scatter its liquid as high speed, and don't give it time to let regroup the dispersed liquid, but as this way was effective, only one slime at a time was the limit.

I was very weak. If it was a person with enough magical power, one attack would be enough to defeat it. Adventurer who are doing something inefficient like me are a minority.

Instead I would usually hunt a good number of goblins, so my income were not bad in that aspect..

Using the power I accumulated with my evolution until now, I can defeat it only with strength and there is no need for such a round away method.

As I dive deeper into the labyrinth, I know the zones with accuracy, while I look for a zone that contains slimes..

In labyrinths where there are many people, the smell of blood and iron is strengthened, and the feeling of that vibration that propagates through the wall increases. And from the time I figured out that feeling, I thought that there was no other like this one.

This labyrinth is usually desolated, because in the vicinity to Malt city, there is one major, the "New Moon Labyrinth". This one has not yet been completely explored and there are still mysteries surrounding it.

Therefore, most of Malt's adventurers went to the other side, hunting here was either starters of solo adventurers who did not challenge the labyrinth with a party.

I am the latter.

It's true that I wanted to challenge the labyrinth of the new moon, but in there, monsters attack in groups, and the quantity is alarming compared to this one, for adventurers without a party, or copper class like me, it was suicide.

The reason why I'm without a party, is because no one would want to join me, as I have no future in advancing positions in the guild, no potential.

Just as I seem to have arrived at the intended place, there was a clear monster like a crystal moving with a stone inside in front of my eyes.

It is a slime.

I held the sword and approached it in silence.
